When the wax comes into contact with the air, it solidifies into small scale shapes that that other worker bees then gather. The worker bees will then chew on it, and then build honeycombs out of it. The honey bees then use these honeycombs to raise the young bees, and to store honey and pollen. Bees must eat 8 lbs of honey to yield 1 lb of wax.
